ConversationBuilderTeen is a virtual conversation simulator designed for teenaged kids. It helps kids understand pragmatic language by taking through complete conversations and showing them how conversations flow from one participant to the next. Students are not just passive participants in the conversation; they are actively engaged in the conversations. They listen to what their peers say and then they get to record their responses.
Because we are re-creating a real conversation for the students, they gain a deeper understanding of how conversations are supposed to flow. At the end of the process, they get to hear themselves have a conversation with their virtual peer. All the wrong answers and re-recordings are stripped away. They get to hear themselves have a conversation in real time as it is supposed to sound. Not only is this incredibly motivating for the students, but it teaches them the basics of pragmatic language in a way that they can rapidly understand. There are over 300 conversations broken into 8 themes, covering all the normal teen obsessions such as sports, summer events, and entertainment. ConversationBuilderTeen also covers all the unpleasant things teen must deal with such as bullying, peer pressure and relationships.
